The block above is exhibited in The British Museum. Its estimated production date is 300 BC – 50 BC. The Greek inscriptions states: “[In fulfillment of a] vow by Hermias to Apollo”.
The inscription is dedicated to Apollo, a cult of which existed in Cyprus.
According to the curator of The British Museum:
“Luigi Palma di Cesnola attributed this inscription to a site in south-east Cyprus which he claimed to be that of ancient Leucolla (1877), a harbour town placed by Strabo (Geography, XIV,6.3) between Arsinoe, south of Salamis, and Pedalion (modern Cape Greco), near which took place a military decisive naval engagement of 306 BC when Demetrios Poliorketes defeated Ptolemy I. Colonna-Ceccaldi (1882), who first published the text of the inscription in 1874, said however that the provenance of the inscription was uncertain.”
